Marianas Peoples

75th Anniversaries of the Battles of Saipan and Tinian Multimedia Exhibit

The Marianas Peoples exhibition, funded by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, was created for the seventy-fifth anniversaries of the Battles of Saipan and Tinian in 2019. It presented various scenes with civilians on the battlefields photographed and filmed in the summer of 1944.

The thirty photographs and footage were reproduced at the National Archives and Records Administration in College Park, Maryland. They were hitherto unseen and depict moments of family love, faith, kindness, and more. The images are invaluable testimonies of what the elders experienced and the values they continue to hold to dearly and pass down to future generations.

This film was created for the 75th Anniversaries Multimedia Exhibition held on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in 2019. The raw footage was collected from the National Archives at College Park, Maryland.

In 2021, the Northern Marianas Humanities Council hopes to bring to the CNMI an exhibit about the Camps throughout the Marianas during and after WWII.  Please contact our office if you would like to sponsor and or collaborate on this valuable project.
