The Council convened a one-day history conference on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Saipan World Resort.
“Cultures in War: Combatants, Islanders, and Settlers in the Pacific War and After” featured presentations by 14 regional and international scholars on a range of topics relating to the World War II battle for the Marianas and its aftermath within the larger context of the Pacific War. Presentations covered a variety of viewpoints and was open to the public. It attracted approximately 300 people.
This conference was held in conjunction with ceremonies to mark the 70th Anniversary of the World War II battles of Saipan and Tinian.
